11:45 AM CASE STUDY: Establishing the Need for the Last Mile – Creating the Case for Port of Brisbane Connectivity to Rail Freight

Port of Brisbane is establishing an economic study which depicts the importance of developing a standard dedicated rail link. Part of this study will also explore how this link will coincide with the Inland Rail, which is currently planned to stop at Acacia Ridge. PoB has seen a decline over the years of rail operations using the existing Queensland Regional Network down to two per cent. By establishing a case for port connectivity, PoB believes rail freight modal share will increase, creating long term gain for the agricultural market and improve livability in the Brisbane community. In this session, Peter will discuss:

  • Developing the growth strategy to improve the rail access to move more product from road to rail, currently only used by predominately frozen meats and dangerous goods
  • Establishing engineering and community benefit assessments and Identifying rail corridors to establish corridor preservation for the dedicated rail link
  • Supporting the future freight growth and supply chain through freight planning and driving priority for infrastructure investment
