3:25 PM CASE STUDY: Preparing for Construction Through the Lockyer Valley – Assessing the Infrastructure Requirements between LVRC and the ARTC

Two of the 13 projects of the Inland Rail will cross through Lockyer Valley Regional Council: Gowrie to Helidon and Helidon to Calvert. With much of the project involving new dual gauge tracks and a combined 7.6km tunnel, challenges are expected to arise with the infrastructure requirements through the steep terrain of the Toowoomba and Little Liverpool Ranges. In order to prepare for the construction, Lockyer Valley Regional Council and the ARTC will need to work together, along with its designated Community Consultative Committee, to prepare for the project’s scope. In this session, Myles will provide a regional council perspective to explore areas on:

  • Ensuring that there is adequate assessment of the impact of Inland Rail on existing transport links, e.g., the severance of local roads
  • Helping ARTC to identify, mitigate and prepare for construction phase impacts on the existing local roads and the community
  • Addressing potential flooding impacts in the region: How Lockyer Valley Regional Council is assisting with the rigorous planning and engineering to overcome these concerns
  • Ensuring land use objectives and development contributes to Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s social, economic and environmental sustainability outcomes
