2:10 PM Federal Update: Supporting and Delivering Australia’s Once-in-a-Generation Inland Rail to Deliver Future Eocnomic Growth

Australia’s Inland Rail project is predicted to boost Australia’s GDP by $16 billion over the next 50 years, serving as the right infrastructure project to fundamentally change Australia’s freight network. The 2017-18 Budget revealed the Australian Government’s commitment to the full delivery of the project, providing an additional $8.4 billion in funding. This opening keynote address will explore the strategic investment of the Inland Rail, including:
  • Creating a new direct freight link through eastern Australia to serve as an improvement to Australia’s freight network for the next generation
  • Reducing time and rail distance travelled between Melbourne and Brisbane by 8 hours to achieve a transit time of under 24 hours
  • Connecting farms, mines, cities and ports to global markets and boosting economic benefits for regional communities
