Project Director, Inland Rail
Transport for NSW

4:00 PM CASE STUDY: New South Wales Case Study: Improving Access to Regional Markets to Reduce Congestion and Creating Capacity for Sydney Roads and Rail

Of the 1700km planned route, 1047km is in NSW alone. This involves 475km of existing track upgrades and 399 kilometers of new tracks, accounting for 40 per cent of the overall project cost. Transport for NSW has been developing a strategic freight plan to deliver a more efficient freight network and system across NSW, which will assist in reducing congestion on the current road and rail network. Drawing on this plan and the Inland Rail investments in NSW, Damian will discuss:

  • Linking of the inland rail to the East-West Corridor: Investigating the new tracks that will reduce journey time and complete the missing link between Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane
  • Areas of growth for domestic and export markets, economic development and investment in regional NSW
  • Bypassing productive agriculture regions and diverting away from Sydney Metro to relieve pressure on the coastal network
